The S-Works McLaren Tarmac
by Specialized and McLaren is worth every penny of its $20,000 price tag. It’s lighter and faster than the standard S-Works Tarmac. This bike uses a new carbon fiber layup process known as “FACT construction”, developed by McLaren, resulting in a 9 – 11 percent lighter frame/fork/handlebar than the original. The weight is reduced by using an exclusive CLX40R tubular wheelset, a reduced spoke count, and a new carbon fiber seat post and crankset spider. Ceramic coating bearings in the hubs and crankset help in reducing friction. Buyers will also get a personalized fitting session, custom color-matched helmet and shoes, a personalized name plate and wall mount plaque for displaying the bike. It also has a unique paint and graphics job all done at the same facility as McLaren P1. The problem is that if you are just hearing about this now, it’s too late – the reservation window is closed.
