Verizon is advertising a 4G tethering service for $23.40/month. Before you subscribe to another charge item on your wireless invoice, check out FoxFi. EveryJack has been using this application for years. The application works with only Androids (sorry iPhoners) and is in the Google App store. It enables tethering without paying the monthly charge for that service. There are three ways to tether when using this application, WIFI, Bluetooth, and USB. Of course the favorite method is WIFI. However, there are a limited number of phones that support WIFI. EveryJack is currently using the HTC DNA with WIFI. It’s a little quirky to get started, but once running it works great. The FoxFi compatibility page states that almost any Android supports the Bluetooth or USB tethering. The application is being offered at $8 for a limited time.
As always, be careful if your data plan is not unlimited. The devices that people usually tether (laptops) tend to consume more data than a phone. Be sure to use your provider’s management tools to keep an eye on your data consumption.
